I don’t think we’ve ever had North Carolina BBQ but it was worth a try. After all, it had to be famous for a reason, right?
Inside was an interesting mix of locals, business people and truckers. I wasn’t in the mood for anything too meaty so I ordered three sides: Fries, potato salad and chicken & dumplings (cause if it’s on the menu, it’s going on my plate).
My husband ordered the Bar-B-Q, which is exactly what it’s called. It doesn’t state the kind of meat or description or anything…just “Bar-B-Q,” and it was the first thing on the menu so it must be good right? He also ordered a side of fried okra and beans.
My dumplings weren’t as creamy as I was used to, but it was good. The Bar-B-Q was actually minced pork, not shredded pork but minced-to-the-tiniest-molecular-structure possible.
My favorite has to be the moon-shaped hush puppies- tasty, crispy, toasty and with just the right amount of spice.
