A few months ago, my husband had his official last day in the military. He would be technically, “retired,” even though he is only in his 40s. He hadn’t worn the uniform in several weeks, and even had a new civilian job, but we still HAD to celebrate a career spanning more than two decades with a nice quiet dinner with just us and the kids (oxymoron?). But we didn’t want to make a huge deal out of it, after all, he already had his big Retirement Ceremony a few weeks before and tonight we just wanted something nice and simple.
Miso is located in a low-frills strip mall in Annandale, but it boasts having the best Katsu in the DC-area. Miso, supposedly, is a Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant, but there were more Japanese dishes than Korean. At this point, it doesn’t matter – I’m here for the Katsu, thank you.
Before our meals came, they brought us a complimentary Chawan Mushi, which is Japanese steamed Egg Custard. I’ve been to several Japanese restaurants, but this was definitely a first. My son, who is normally a picky eater, actually loved it and asked for another one.
Since this meal was a few months ago, I don’t remember what this appetizer was called, but it had salmon sashimi on top of a salad, drizzled with a spicy sauce.
And now for the star of the show…the KATSUS! We ordered fish and chicken katsus, and yes, it was great! Super crispy on the outside and hot and steamy on the inside.
Yummy 1st experience over this past summer… why is it taking so long for my 2nd yummy experience?? Great photos and captions… it’s late and you are making me hungry.
